Fee Aaij Qwartet (exclusieve try-out)

In april 2024 brengen de jonge Nederlandse pianiste Fee Aaij en haar Qwartet hun debuutalbum 'I am The Joker' uit. Het conceptuele album viert een geluid waarin modale jazz en artrock worden gecombineerd, resulterend in een nieuw genre genaamd ‘jokerjazz’. The Joker schetst een beeld.

Stel je voor:
J.S. Bach, Radiohead, Thelonious Monk, McCoy Tyner, Brad Mehldau en, natuurlijk, David Bowie lopen elkaar midden in de nacht tegen het lijf. De figuren zijn verdwaald in een groot middeleeuws kasteel en nemen plaats aan een grote lange tafel waar ze elkaar fabels beginnen te vertellen. Maar er klopt iets niet. De verhalen lijken allemaal op mysterieuze wijze steeds hetzelfde te concluderen: een gedaante, een aanwezigheid, die ieder kent, maar nooit heeft ontmoet.Van een afstand gadeslaand, lacht de Joker stilletjes. In April 2024 the young dutch pianist Fee Aaij and her Qwartet will make their debut with 'I am The Joker', a conceptual album of improvised music. The album celebrates, a sound in which modal jazz and art rock are combined, resulting into a new genre called ‘jokerjazz’. However, The Joker thinks this description lacks depth.

So, imagine:
Radiohead, J.S. Bach, Thelonious Monk, McCoy Tyner, Brad Mehldau and, of
course, David Bowie running into each other in the middle of the night. While being lost in a big medieval castle, they sit around a long table where they start telling each other folk stories. Yet something feels off. The tales mysteriously seem to conclude the same thing; A figure, a presence, they all know, although never have met. Watching them from afar The Joker laughs silently. It’s time...
